Nick Reynolds Football Stats — Marple Newtown, Millersville & Kean

Three programs, in order, with every figure tied to its source.

Nick Reynolds played linebacker and fullback at Marple Newtown High School in Broomall, Delaware County, then defensive end at Millersville University and Kean University. Sourced figures below are printed exactly as the newspaper, program or official statistics report them. Anything this site calculates is labelled as a calculation.

High-school career defense

36 games, 384 solo tackles

Marple Newtown played a 12-game schedule in each of 1995, 1996 and 1997. The 1995 and 1996 per-game figures are Nick Reynolds's firsthand career record; the 1997 total is the newspaper-reported season figure. The season totals for 1995 and 1996 are calculated from those per-game figures and are not newspaper totals — the arithmetic is shown in full.

At least 47

Combined career sacks

At least 16 documented high school + 31 college. Stated as “at least” because earlier high-school sack totals are missing.

668 is stated as a minimum recorded tackle figure: high-school assisted tackles were never recorded, so only the 384 high-school solo tackles are added to the 284 total college tackles. Career sacks are stated as “at least 47” for the same reason — the 1995 high-school sack total is missing from the record.

The Al Bundy of Marple

Four touchdowns — on four touches.

Al Bundy's four-touchdown high-school game is fictional — pop-culture shorthand for a glory story told one time too many. Nick Reynolds's four-touchdown game against Academy Park actually happened, and the Philadelphia Inquirer documented it the same week: he scored on all four times he touched the ball in a 55–20 win.

  1. 01

    19-yard run

  2. 02

    37-yard touchdown reception

  3. 03

    72-yard kickoff return

  4. 04

    34-yard run

Calculated on this site from the Inquirer's play distances: 162 yards on four scoring touches, an average of 40.5 yards per scoring touch. Other papers printed different lengths for two of the plays — a 45-yard reception and a 77-yard kickoff return — and those readings are preserved in the source record rather than discarded.

Context

Why no all-time defensive rank appears here

  • Marple Newtown's current public school-record page does not publish an individual tackles leaderboard, so an official all-time defensive rank cannot be established from that record book.
  • 168 solo tackles is presented here as the documented total for the 1997 season — not as a school record.
  • Because the program's records carry no individual tackles category, this site reports the number as printed instead of manufacturing a rank.

  • A Millersville statistical release dated October 14, 2000 records a six-game checkpoint: 33 total tackles, 7 tackles for loss for 32 yards, 5 sacks for 25 yards and 2 forced fumbles. It is a dated in-season checkpoint, not final-season totals.
  • A Millersville release of October 15, 2000 credits him with forcing a Mansfield fumble that Jamaal Lee recovered and returned 30 yards, on an afternoon the team totaled eight tackles for loss.
  • Official Villanova game previews from September 2000 identify Nick as one of only three returning Millersville defensive starters.

  • The official table shows Nick leading Kean in tackles for loss, sacks and fumble recoveries.
  • Featured sack total: Kean's current record book credits him with 12 sacks in 2002, and that is the figure used throughout this site, including the college and career sack totals.
  • Kean's all-conference archive lists him for the 2002 season; no team or designation beyond that listing is claimed.
  • New Jersey City University's own game report of October 19, 2002 called him Kean's most outstanding defensive player after nine tackles, five tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble.
