Experiencing Life's Rollercoaster — Nick Reynolds's Age-17 Book

A bound manuscript in the family archive carries the printed title "Experiencing Life's Rollercoaster" and the byline "By: Nick Reynolds". Nick wrote it at seventeen as he approached the end of his high-school career; the introduction sets out his choice to reflect on his life and how experiences shape a person, and a later page refers to "my 17 years". It is dedicated to his mother and father and runs from an introduction through nine numbered parts to a closing. The physical artifact, its title, byline, chapter headings and age-17 framing are what this entry verifies — the personal recollections written inside it are the author's own account.

  • Evidence note: The linked PDF is a page-by-page photographic archive of the physical pages, not a modern typeset edition or an OCR transcription.
  • Evidence note: The photographed pages establish that Nick wrote it at seventeen but carry no printed publication date, so no calendar year is claimed here.
  • Evidence note: Personal anecdotes inside the manuscript are the author's own account and are not independently verified here.
  • Evidence note: The afterword published on the canonical book page is a separate present-day firsthand recollection by Nick Reynolds. It is not part of the photographed age-17 manuscript, and this entry's verification remains scoped to the artifact's title, byline, chapter headings and age-17 context.

Afterword: From Peer Mediation to the Classroom — Nick Reynolds's Firsthand Account

In a present-day afterword published with his age-17 book, Nick Reynolds describes serving as head of peer mediation for the Marple Newtown school administration, speaking with students who were intimidating or targeting others, and viewing that responsibility as standing up for the underdog. He recounts one confrontation in which he was spat on and struck, defended himself, and was suspended despite believing he had acted in self-defense. He also recalls learning afterward that an anonymous caller had contacted the other student's family, being questioned by a school administrator once the family contacted police, declining to identify anyone, and the other student transferring schools some time later — as he remembers it, with no claim that the call caused the transfer and no identification of the caller. He met Superintendent Bob Mesaros, explained his role as head of peer mediation, and as he remembers it worked the suspension day in the superintendent's office. Writing more than two decades later, he also recounts a further confrontation weeks afterward during Senior Week at the shore, giving a direct retrospective account of the force he used, and a vehicle breakdown on the drive home that he suspected at the time was retaliation — a suspicion he never established and that names no one. About four and a half years later he returned to thank him and was hired back into the district as the Paxon Hollow woodshop and technology-education teacher and as a defensive-line coach under Coach Gionta.

I always saw that responsibility as standing up for the underdog.
  • Evidence note: His role as head of peer mediation, the circumstances of the confrontation, the superintendent meeting and the handling of the suspension are Nick Reynolds's own firsthand recollection.
  • Evidence note: The anonymous call to the other student's family, the questioning by a school administrator, the police contact and the student's later transfer are also his firsthand recollection, and he does not present them as causally connected or name the caller.
  • Evidence note: The later Senior Week confrontation at the shore, the emergency response that followed, and the cut radiator hose and engine damage on the drive home are Nick Reynolds's retrospective firsthand account; he says he never established who cut the hose and names no culprit.
  • Evidence note: Existing archive sources support his later educator and coaching role in the district where that is already documented; nothing here upgrades the rest of the afterword to verified.
  • Evidence note: No external verification is claimed for the hiring or the discipline decision.

The Fire Truck That Brought Santa Back to Broomall

Official Marple Newtown School District board minutes dated December 7, 2020 corroborate that the Marple Civic Association Santa drive-by took place that month. According to Nick Reynolds's firsthand account, the local fire department was not conducting its usual Santa rounds that year, so he personally paid for and purchased a vintage ladder truck in Villas, near Cape May, New Jersey, so children in Broomall could still see Santa. A nighttime photograph from the family archive documents the decorated truck with Santa aboard and community participants riding along. A saved marketplace screenshot documents the type of vintage ladder truck and the Villas-area purchase lead, but it is not by itself proof of payment.

1997 Team MVP and Jim Smith Most Dedicated Player

Nick Reynolds received Marple Newtown's 1997 Team MVP award and the 1997 Jim Smith Most Dedicated Player award. The program's official award history corroborates both selections for that season, and a school-district MVP trophy in the family archive independently carries the same year. The MVP award was named for Pete Massaro years later; that later name is not used here as the title of Nick's 1997 award. The same official page later records the program's annual Nick Reynolds Iron Man Award.

  • Evidence note: Separate 1997 trophies in the family archive identify Nick as Outstanding Linebacker and Outstanding Offensive Back; a 1997–98 school-district trophy names him Most Valuable Player.
  • Evidence note: The program's present-day award page prints the MVP award under its later name. At the time of Nick's selection the award was called MVP / Team MVP, and this record uses the contemporary title.

Pulling a Parachute Made Him Faster

Herm Rogul, correspondent · Section C

A verified full-page profile by correspondent Herm Rogul introduces Nick Reynolds of Newtown Square as a 6-foot, 245-pound Millersville linebacker and centers on his training method: sprinting while pulling a parachute for resistance to build speed and endurance. The piece traces his multi-position history on both sides of the ball and his persistence as one of only six players remaining from an original 33-man recruiting class. It also records what he wanted after football — to teach industrial technology and to coach. The summary is written for this site from the original printed page.

The Nick Reynolds Iron Man Award

Marple Newtown Football's official award-winners page carries the annual Nick Reynolds Iron Man Award and lists its recipients. This is a later program award named in Nick Reynolds's honor — an award given each year to a Marple Newtown player, not an award he received himself. It is not the title of any award he won in 1997: his 1997 honors were Team MVP and the Jim Smith Most Dedicated Player award, and those titles are recorded unchanged elsewhere on this site. It is likewise unconnected to the program's later naming of the MVP award for Pete Massaro. The record here is the program's own published page, which is why the honor is filed as an official record of program legacy rather than a personal award.

  • Evidence note: This award is named in Nick Reynolds's honor and is given to other players; it is not one of his own honors and is not listed in his personal awards table.
